Union won: pay rise for workers on 1 July

Today the Fair Work Commission handed down the Annual Wage Review decision.

On 1 July 2019 workers on the minimum wage and workers covered by a Modern Award will receive a 3% pay rise. This includes the Award for workers in retail, fast food and pharmacy.

This pay increase is thanks to SDA union members and their support and union membership allowing the SDA to continue our work to push for pay rises.

Each year unions, including the SDA, put forward a strong case for significant pay increases in the Annual Wage Review because we know the rising cost of living continues to put pressure on retail, fast food and pharmacy workers.

The new rates of pay are effective from Monday 1 July.

As the cost of everything else continues to rise, we understand how important this pay increase is but also that wages must continue to be lifted.

While wage growth is still stagnating, unions are the only ones advocating for your wages to go up.

Fair Work Commission ruling on Sunday penalty rates

While workers will receive a pay rise on 1 July, Sunday penalty rates will be reduced in line with the Fair Work Commission’s ruling in 2017.

The SDA believes these cuts are extremely unfair and argued against the cuts every step of the way.

That’s why we consistently push for your wages to go up and continue our campaign to protect penalty rates.
