R U OK? Day 2021

2021 has been another extremely challenging year for everyone and it is more important than ever to be conscious of your mental health and that of your loved ones.

For our essential retail, fast food and warehousing employees, it has been especially difficult.

Many of our members have had to continue working throughout each stage of the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia.

Working on the frontline during a health crisis has made work increasingly stressful, and at times, dangerous for our members.

Workers have had to endure panic buying, aggressive and abusive customers, continually changing working conditions and the real threat to their health and safety.

Despite this, SDA members have persevered and powered on to ensure Australians have access to the necessities.

Other members in retail and other sectors have had interruptions in their work due to lockdown closures which may have caused anxiety and stress about being at home, increased caring responsibilities and financial pressure.

The SDA encourages everyone to participate in R U OK? Day this year.

Reach out to a family member, friend or co-worker and check up on them.

R U OK? Resources

The message for R U OK? Day 2021 is:

‘Are they really OK? Ask them today.’

Do you know how the people in your world are really going?

Life’s ups and downs happen to all of us. So chances are someone you know might be struggling. Your genuine support can make a difference whatever they are facing, big or small.

So, don’t wait until someone’s visibly distressed or in crisis. Make a moment meaningful and ask them how they’re really going.
