Union win for casuals to apply at Coles Supermarkets!

The SDA recently won a massive case at the Fair Work Commission securing casual retail workers covered by the Retail Award the same penalty rates as permanent workers on Saturdays and weeknights after 6pm.

During negotiations for the new Coles Supermarkets Agreement, the SDA fought to ensure that if these penalty rates were won in the Retail Award, they would also be included in the Coles Supermarkets Agreement.

Due to this win by the SDA at the Fair Work Commission, these higher penalty rates will be phased in for casual Coles workers as follows:

Saturday Rates
From 26 November 2018  25% loading + 15% penalty = 40%
From 1 October 2019  25% loading + 20% penalty = 45%
From 1 March 2020 25% loading + 25% penalty = 50%

Monday to Friday Evening Rates
From 26 November 2018 25% loading + 5% penalty = 30%
From 1 October 2019  25% loading + 10% penalty = 35%
From 1 March 2020 25% loading + 15% penalty = 40%
From 1 October 2020 25% loading + 20% penalty = 45%
From 1 March 2021 = 25% loading + 25% penalty = 50%

These changes to weeknight and Saturday rates will commence from Monday November 26 2018.

PLUS! The Federal Labor Party has committed to restoring Sunday and Public Holiday penalty rates in the Retail, Fast Food, Hospitality and Pharmacy Awards to their pre-July 2017 levels if elected.

If this happens, they will also be restored at Coles Supermarkets, thanks to a mirroring clause negotiated by the SDA into the Coles Supermarkets Agreement.
