It's time to secure improved pay and conditions at Big W

The SDA is the union for Big W workers and there are thousands of members across Australia who are standing up for better pay and conditions.

Negotiations with Big W for a new Agreement are currently underway.

A new Big W Agreement is critical to locking in improved conditions and pay rises over the next few years.

We’ll be keeping all Big W members up to date throughout this process. Any new Big W Agreement will be put to a vote of employees and must be approved by the Fair Work Commission before taking effect.

The SDA will be pushing for a range of things during negotiations including:

  • Decent and regular pay rises over the life of the Agreement
  • Increased casual loading
  • Fairer hours and rostering that consider your availability and caring responsibilities
  • Improved leave entitlements
  • Adult rates to be paid at 18 years of age

Remember, your voice at work is important. To have your say when it comes to your pay and conditions at Big W, make sure you and your work mates are members of the SDA.

In the coming weeks, Big W workers will have the opportunity to vote on whether or not to accept the proposed Big W Agreement.

Before voting begins, the SDA will be out in stores with comprehensive information about the proposed Big W Agreement so you can find out more and ask any questions you may have.

Remember, you have the final say. No new Agreement will be introduced without a vote of Big W workers.

SDA secures new in-principle Big W Agreement

This week in meetings across Australia, Big W Delegates and Shop Stewards overwhelmingly endorsed an in-principle new Big W Agreement.

Following extensive negotiations between the SDA and the Company, the proposed Agreement is now ready for you to consider. This is an important step towards a new Agreement that will secure:

  • Better wages
  • Fairer rostering – for your work/life balance
  • More time off
  • Your hard-won SDA Union conditions

A number of key improvements in the proposed Agreement include:

  • An increase to wages over the life of the Agreement over & above the Annual Wage Review Fair Work Commission decision
  • An additional week of leave (known as Boosted Leave) phased in over the life of the Agreement
  • A 4 day week option for full timers (by agreement)
  • A 4 day week option for part timers currently working 5 days (by agreement)
  • Improved capacity for part timers to have additional regular hours locked in to their base contract hours

What’s next?
In the coming weeks, you will have the opportunity to vote on whether or not to accept the proposed Big W Agreement.

Remember, you have the final say. No new Agreement will be introduced without a vote of Big W workers.

Before voting begins, the SDA will be out in stores with comprehensive information about the proposed Big W Agreement so you can find out more and ask any questions you may have.

Voting will take place from 17 November to 27 November.

If there is a majority yes vote, the Big W Agreement will then go to Fair Work Commission for approval.

Finalising a new Big W Agreement is the best way to protect and improve your pay and conditions over the next few years.

We will keep you updated throughout this process.

Negotiating for improved pay and conditions at Big W

The SDA and Big W began negotiations for a new Big W Agreement in September last year.

Your Big W Agreement sets out your pay and conditions at work.

The SDA has continued to meet with the company this year and have further meetings scheduled.

We are working hard to secure a new Agreement that locks in improvements to your pay and condition over the next few years.

The SDA has made progress on a number of claims in negotiations so far and continue to push for a range of claims based on the feedback we received from Big W members.

We understand that the rising cost of living is putting serious pressure on workers across the country and that is why the SDA is pushing for a fair and decent pay rise.

The SDA is also negotiating to ensure Big W members are being listened to when it comes to balancing your work and your caring responsibilities – whether it’s for your kids, a sibling, or an elderly family member.

We believe workers shouldn’t have to choose between looking after loved ones or missing out on a shift and going without pay.

The SDA will keep you updated as negotiations continue.

Remember, before any new agreement comes into place, you will get to have your say in a vote. No new agreement can take effect without a majority yes vote.
